A NOTE ON ELSEWHERE & Sid Marty
Elsewhere, published by Centre Peak Productions is the title of Sid Marty's second album of original songs, the first being  Let the River Run  released by Centre Peak in l990 and long out of circulation. Some listeners might recall two songs in particular from that first effort, the cowboy song "Down Along the Livingstone" and a comic effort "The Lonely Moose"

Produced by renowned Calgary-based blues artist Tim Williams, the songs on Elsewhere include a lament for third world child soldiers, a paean to melting mountain glaciers, tributes to Alberta's vanishing ranching culture and passionate love songs and up tempo celebrations of Rocky Mountain days and nights. Guest appearances by Ken Hamm, Ron Casat, Amos Garrett  David Wilkie, John Campbell and Paul Marty give the album a real western edginess and vocal support from Tom Wilson, Denise Withnell and Myrna Marty augment Sid's baritone voicing.

Although Sid Marty began his creative efforts as a folk-singer and published poet,  his  career as a best-selling non-fiction author (Men for the Mountains, Leaning on the Wind  and Switchbacks ) has overshadowed his musical career for many years.

His recent musical credits include Alberta at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, July 6 to 11, 2006, Canmore's Theatre Plus Bow Valley, the Banff Mountain Book Festival and the International Festival of Mountain Films in Dundee, Scotland.

Over the years he has played some odd venues, but the most bizarre musical experience was opening for Céline Dion some years back at the Jack Singer concert hall in Calgary. Dion's fans were remarkably kind to this burly folksinger-- or maybe they were just puzzled into enthusiasm.  Sid Marty plays six and twelve string guitars.

The music critics say:
"Marty's songs are simple in structure but rich in melody and richer yet in content. A real treat." Calgary Herald

"Lady in Green (is) one of the most beautiful tunes I've heard" Folk on Tap Magazine, Waterlooville, England.

"If people are unsure of what good well written contemporary  folk music sounds like this record(Let the River Run) is a  must.  I've been waiting to hear music like this for years." Willie P. Bennett

"Brimful of sensational imagery that highlights his precision with the language"   Hellen Metella, Edmonton Journal
